Smartphones make communication easier
These days, it is impossible to find someone who is not connected to the cell phone network. Mobile phones are available in the market for a low as Rs 1,000, making them accessible even to the common man who may not be able to afford other luxuries.
But as it goes with all technology over time, Cell phones have also evolved to provide better and faster services to users. It could not be fathomed a decade ago that video calls could be possible over cell phones but now it is possible. Even in the case of the internet, which was a fairly new concept a few years ago, is now available on the go on mobile phones.
Cell phones have changed the way that people live and conduct their daily lives. One of the biggest improvements is in the form of a smartphone. A smartphone is a phone that offers more advanced computing power and connectivity, as compared to normal mobile phones. Smart phones are becoming part of everyday life for a number of tech-savvy individuals. And this is just the beginning.
The first smartphone was designed by IBM in 1992 and named ‘Simon’. It was released in 1993 and sold by BellSouth. This phone included a calendar, address book, world clock, calculator, notepad, email, fax, and games while still being a mobile phone. This was the first touchscreen phone with a stylus option. This was also the first phone to have a ‘predictive’ keyboard – a feature that most people are used to now.
The first Smartphone that was produced by Nokia – the Finnish phone company, was released in 1996. This was the first color screen model with an open operating system. Nokia soon released its first camera phone and later added Wi-Fi to its list of features.
The most popular smartphones on the market today are the I phone, BlackBerry, Android phones. All these phones have revolutionary applications that offer a wide variety of uses.
The first I Phone was released by Apple Inc. in 2007 after which Apple began to dominate the Smartphone market. BlackBerry was around for awhile but was initially considered to be more of a business phone. However it is now moving into sections of the population other than business. Android phones are fairly new in the Indian market, but are slowly overtaking the I Phone and BlackBerry.
The use of smartphones will be further revolutionized by 3G technology. It is currently available with government providers, but private companies have not yet communicated their plans for 3G to the public. 3G will enable high speed data transfers with rates up to about 21 Mbps. This means you can now surf the Web faster and watch live TV too. 3G video calls also provide better quality and a host of other features.
