Is The Xperia X10 Mini Pro Worth Buying?
Global mobile manufacturers may be moving from large to LARGER touchscreen smartphones but Sony Ericsson has not forgotten about the compact smartphone market. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro is a one of its kind with a compact 2.55 inch full screen display.
The X10 Mini Pro is very much similar to its thinner brother, the X10 Mini. They both come with a Qualcomm 600mhz processor that operates on the Android OS. The original OS that comes with the Mini Pro is Android 1.6 (Donut). However, it is upgradable to the recent Android 2.1 OS (Eclair). The newer Android OS features fancy upgrades such as HTML5 web browsing and an upgraded virtual keyboard for faster typing.
Despite having an extra slide out QWERTY keyboard, the phone is surprisingly thin. As compared to its “twin”, the Mini Pro has a negligible 2mm of extra depth. In other words, they’ll feel the same in your pockets and palms. The Mini Pro’s default color is black but it is also available in Pink and Red.
As far as we are concerned, the QWERTY keyboard is a fantastic addition to the cell phone. Executives who are often on the go will be thankful, as the keys are well positioned and spaced, hence resulting in quick and efficient typing. Sony Ericsson probably noticed that virtual keyboards don’t work well with smaller screen cell phones.
The Xperia X10 Mini Pro comes with the visually appealing Xperia experience. This includes the lively 3D interface and the mobile social network partner, Timescape. The trademark UI by Sony Ericsson constantly collect updates from multiple social networks and display them on an attractive timeline. Social profile integration with the address book serves as yet another convenient feature. Need entertainment? Sony Ericsson’s “PlayNow” mobile store sells music tracks, games and applications.
As for the multimedia capabilities of the Mini Pro, we have already highlighted the beautiful gallery. On the other hand, the 5 MP camera provides quality pictures in solid resolution (2560×1920 pixels). It also comes with autofocus, LED flash, camera modes and video recording (640×480 pixels). You will be able to pick between auto, macro, twilight or sports mode when snapping pictures. The noise isolation handsfree kit also delivers great clarity and bass when listening to music.
The most common worry about the X10 Mini Pro is usually related to its smaller touchscreen. Despite a lack of virtual real estate, Sony Ericsson had successfully optimized the interface to accommodate space restrictions. This means that you will not experience day-to-day frustrations on the compact smartphone. Ultimately, the main problem that lies with the virtual keyboard is tactfully solved with the slide out QWERTY keyboard. That leaves us with one disadvantage – the lower resolution of the screen causes incompatibility issues with a few Android applications.
For those of you who are particular about the size of your cell phones, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro will be a great choice. It comes with full smartphone capabilities and an affordable price tag!
