They say that man has three basic needs, food, shelter and clothing. Perhaps that was before. But in this present generation that we have, man’s basic need is actually comprised of four aspects; food shelter, clothing, and mobile phone credits. It may sound absurd or hilarious to some degree, but it is true to many people. It is no longer just an option, but a necessity for someone to have credits on his phone to be always connected.

As they say, there is nothing free in this world. You have to pay! And more often than not, cellphone credits or mobile phone bill, eats a big chunk of our income. And if you are in Australia, who travels frequently, you are paying the third most expensive  global roaming charges in the world just behind Chile and Japan. Not only that, with the emergence of Smartphones that offers mobile browsing and internet connectivity, there are now more ways for you to get charged, sometimes without your knowledge.

So here are a few tips and suggestions for you to save and reduce your cell phone bill.

Know your mobile phone subscription’s terms and coverage. There is no better way to save with your subscription than knowing what the terms and limitations imposed.
Check for bundle options – many carriers offer packages that are more affordable if taken as a bundled package. Let’s say a bundle of your mobile phone plan, internet, and television.
Stay within your limits – keep watch of  you budget. If you have a plan of 500minutes call time, try not to go beyond.
Remember the WHO reminder – sometimes people become more obedient when they know the consequences of their actions. Paying the bill may not be a serious threat, but getting a brain tumor may help you slow down on your cell phone marathon. So finish the conversation quickly.
Use wifi -  Instead of using your telcos 3G or other internet connection options look for a place where you can have a free access to wifi. Hotels, coffee shops, airports, bus terminals, almost every public place offers free access to wifi so don’t bother getting billed exorbitantly by using your carrier’s internet connection.
Alternate IM’s and Voip – Instead of sending international SMS to your client’s or outsourced staff, why not use Gtalk, or Skype (of course while using a free wifi access)
Make the signal is clear – when there is only one bar of signal strength, it may not be a good idea to make a phone call as you may experienced dropped calls and unclear reception. Try to get the best signal as possible so you won’t waste your call credits telling the other party to repeat what they said.
Off Peak and Peak hours – some telcos offer discounts for calls made on off peak hours. If the call is not very urgent, you may want to call when the rates drop during the off peak hours.
Pay on time – Avoid penalties and other charges by paying your bills on time. If you tend to forget your bills due date try to always keep a bill reminder on your mobile phone, computer or on your diary.
Keep it safe – secure your cell phone from being accessed by other people.

So there you go, keep this tips in mind to help you out in saving and reducing your cell phone bills.
